Wontumi Urges NPP Delegates to Prioritise Winnable Candidates Ahead of 2028 Election

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has called on party delegates to base their decisions in the upcoming presidential primaries on a candidate’s ability to secure victory in the 2028 general elections.

He cautioned delegates against allowing personal relationships, friendships, or family affiliations to influence their choices, stressing that electoral success should remain the party’s foremost priority.

The NPP is expected to hold its presidential primaries in two weeks to elect a flagbearer who will lead the party into the 2028 elections.

Chairman Wontumi made these remarks during the campaign tour of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the Ejura Sekyedumase Constituency on Saturday, January 17.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia stands out among the contenders as the candidate best positioned to lead the party back to power. He emphasised that delegates must focus on selecting a leader with broad national appeal and the capacity to win the confidence of the electorate.

“If it is power that we seek, then our decision should not be based on personal relationships, but on who has the ability to lead us to victory in the 2028 elections,” he stated.

Chairman Wontumi reiterated that unity and strategic decision-making would be critical to the NPP’s chances of reclaiming power, urging delegates to vote with the party’s long-term success in mind.
