Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer has found himself at the centre of renewed transfer speculation after a childhood photograph of him wearing a Manchester United shirt resurfaced online. The image has gone viral on social media, intensifying discussions about a potential future move to Old Trafford amid reports that United are monitoring the 23-year-old’s situation.

Palmer has been loosely linked with Manchester United in recent weeks, prompting comparisons with previous transfers from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford. Mason Mount’s high-profile switch in 2023 remains the most recent example of that well-trodden route. However, despite the growing chatter, there has been no formal approach from United, nor any indication that Chelsea are willing to enter negotiations for the England international.

The rumours have gathered momentum largely due to Palmer’s personal background. Born and raised in Wythenshawe, a Manchester suburb with strong footballing heritage, Palmer has previously acknowledged his support for Manchester United during his childhood. That connection resurfaced after the photograph emerged, reigniting debate among fans.

In April 2024, speaking to TNT Sports after scoring a hat-trick in Chelsea’s dramatic 4–3 victory over United, Palmer openly addressed his early allegiances. “Yeah, when I was growing up I was a United fan,” he said, a comment that has since been widely shared as transfer speculation continues.

Despite those past ties, Palmer’s professional career has flourished at Chelsea. Since joining the club, he has established himself as one of their most influential attacking players. As of January 24, 2026, he has recorded 48 goals and 29 assists in 110 appearances across all competitions, underlining his importance to the team.

Such performances naturally attract interest from rival clubs, particularly a Manchester United side keen to strengthen with proven Premier League talent. Nevertheless, Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has firmly dismissed suggestions that Palmer is unsettled or considering a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Addressing the speculation, Rosenior insisted the player is “very, very happy” at Chelsea and remains a central figure in the club’s long-term plans. He described Palmer as an “outstanding player” and cautioned against interpreting temporary frustrations, injuries, or dips in form as signs of a desire to leave.

According to Rosenior, Chelsea’s focus is on supporting Palmer’s return to peak condition and ensuring he continues to perform at the level expected of him. The club views him as a cornerstone of its ongoing project rather than a player edging towards the exit.

For now, Cole Palmer remains firmly a Chelsea player. While the Manchester United links add intrigue, they remain speculative, with the Blues determined to retain one of their brightest talents.
