Founder of the Union Government (UG), Akwasi Addai Odike, has officially announced his decision to contest Ghana’s 2028 presidential election, presenting himself as a fresh alternative within the country’s political space.
In a recent interview, Mr. Odike shared his views on the current political climate, criticising the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). He argued that the party appears to be preoccupied with selecting a flagbearer rather than grooming a strong and credible presidential candidate capable of addressing Ghana’s challenges.
According to him, the distinction between choosing a party leader and preparing a national leader is being overlooked, a situation he believes could weaken the NPP’s chances in future elections.
Mr. Odike also directed his comments at the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), urging the administration to focus less on self-congratulation and more on addressing the country’s economic difficulties. While acknowledging that the NDC’s governance framework has positive elements, he maintained that the benefits have not yet translated into improved living conditions for many Ghanaians.
He stressed that economic recovery should remain the government’s top priority, noting that ordinary citizens continue to face significant financial pressures.
With his declaration, Akwasi Addai Odike positions himself as a vocal critic of both major political parties, signalling his readiness to challenge the status quo ahead of the 2028 elections.
