John Dumelo Offers Free Transport to Stranded Students at Okponglo Bus Terminal

Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has earned widespread praise after personally intervening to assist stranded non-resident students at the Okponglo bus terminal in Accra.

A viral video circulating on social media shows the lawmaker stopping at the busy terminal after lectures to help students who were struggling to secure transportation home. Okponglo is well known for long queues, overcrowded buses, and extended waiting times, particularly during evening hours when many students are eager to leave campus.

Rather than drive past the scene, Dumelo reportedly paid transport fares for several students and ensured they were able to board vehicles to their respective destinations without paying. The students were visibly delighted, expressing gratitude as they boarded the buses, with many thanking him repeatedly for the unexpected support.

The gesture has sparked positive reactions online, with many applauding the MP for demonstrating empathy and practical leadership. Social media users described the act as a genuine show of concern for the everyday challenges faced by students, noting that it reflected leadership rooted in action rather than rhetoric.

Beyond the immediate goodwill, the video has also reignited discussions about the persistent transportation difficulties non-resident students face in Accra, especially around major terminals like Okponglo.

John Dumelo is no stranger to community-focused initiatives. In recent months, he has distributed food items, including live chickens from his farm, to families across his constituency during festive periods. He has also donated supplies to school feeding caterers as part of efforts to ensure children in his constituency receive quality meals.

Many constituents and observers continue to commend Dumelo for his hands-on approach to governance, describing his actions as consistent, thoughtful, and impactful.
