Barcelona Defeat Real Oviedo to Go One Point Clear at the Top of La Liga

Barcelona strengthened their grip on the La Liga title race with a convincing 3–0 victory over bottom-placed Real Oviedo at the Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday, moving one point clear of rivals Real Madrid.

After a goalless first half, the hosts came alive following the restart. Dani Olmo broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute, calmly placing his shot into the bottom corner to give Barcelona a deserved lead.

Just five minutes later, Raphinha doubled the advantage, capitalising on a defensive error by David Costas before delicately lifting the ball over Oviedo goalkeeper Aaron Escandell. The Brazilian’s energetic display proved decisive and earned him the Player of the Match award.

The result was put beyond doubt in the 73rd minute when teenage sensation Lamine Yamal produced a moment of brilliance, acrobatically converting a bicycle kick from Olmo’s inviting delivery into the box.

Although Barcelona struggled to impose themselves in the first half—coming closest when Escandell denied Raphinha at the near post—they showed far greater intensity and control after the break. The win marked their 10th home victory in La Liga under head coach Hansi Flick, a feat the club last achieved in 2019 under Ernesto Valverde.

While Barcelona maintain their narrow lead at the summit, Real Oviedo remain rooted to the bottom of the table and sit eight points adrift of safety.

Attention now turns to European competition for Flick’s side, who host Copenhagen on Wednesday in their final Champions League league-phase fixture, as they aim to secure a top-eight finish and avoid the play-off round.
