Ghanaians Applaud Papa Shee’s Loyalty After Throwback Video With Daddy Lumba and Akosua Serwaa Resurfaces

Ghanaians have taken to social media to praise former highlife musician Nana Yaw Akosah, popularly known as Papa Shee, following the resurfacing of an old video featuring him alongside the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba and his first wife, Akosua Serwaa.

The throwback footage, believed to have been recorded during the funeral rites of Daddy Lumba’s mother, Comfort Gyamfi—also known as Ama Saah—has sparked widespread reactions online. In the video, Papa Shee is seen dressed in black traditional attire, walking closely with Daddy Lumba and his family as they mourned together.

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kojo Fosu, lost his mother in 2001, a moment widely regarded as one of the most painful periods of his life. He later dedicated songs such as Anidasoɔ Wɔhɔ Ma Obiara and Ɛmmere Pa Bɛba to her memory, reflecting the deep bond they shared.

Many social media users say the resurfaced video highlights Papa Shee’s long-standing loyalty to Daddy Lumba and his family, particularly Akosua Serwaa. Commentators have noted that Papa Shee stood by Akosua Serwaa long before the passing of Daddy Lumba, describing him as a rare example of a genuine and dependable friend.

Reactions online have been overwhelmingly positive, with users commending Papa Shee for remaining steadfast despite controversies that emerged following Daddy Lumba’s death. Several commenters described him as “a true friend” and “a symbol of loyalty,” while others expressed admiration for his consistent presence in the family’s life.

In recent months, Papa Shee has again drawn public attention after videos emerged showing him supporting Akosua Serwaa upon her return to Ghana from Germany. He has been seen accompanying her to meetings with traditional leaders and authorities, as well as standing by her during legal disputes involving the late musician’s family.

Papa Shee was also among those who welcomed Akosua Serwaa at the Kotoka International Airport as part of a group popularly referred to as “Team Legal Wife,” further reinforcing public perceptions of his unwavering support.

The renewed interest in Papa Shee’s relationship with Daddy Lumba’s family has prompted many Ghanaians to celebrate him as a model of loyalty and friendship—qualities they say are increasingly rare in the public eye.
