President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaian Muslims planning to embark on this year’s Hajj pilgrimage that preparations are progressing smoothly, with improved accommodation and transportation arrangements already in place.
The President gave the assurance while speaking at the commissioning of the Akweteyman Central Mosque, where he urged prospective pilgrims to remain patient and optimistic.
“It is God who determines when one goes to Mecca,” President Mahama said.
“If you do not make the journey this year, you will have another opportunity next year.”
He called on pilgrims to cooperate fully with the Hajj Committee to ensure a peaceful and well-organised pilgrimage.
“I want everyone to work closely with the Hajj Committee so that we have a very successful and peaceful Hajj this year,” he stated.
President Mahama commended the Hajj Committee for the progress made so far, particularly in securing suitable accommodation.
“They have already made significant arrangements,” he said.
“They have secured good accommodation closer to the Kaaba, as well as suitable lodging in Madina.”
He also spoke about ongoing transport preparations, expressing confidence in the overall process.
“Transport arrangements are underway, and I am confident that this year’s Hajj will be very well organised,” he added.
On airport infrastructure, the President disclosed that a dedicated Hajj transit terminal is currently under construction by the Ghana Airports Company Limited, but will not be ready in time for this year’s pilgrimage.
“Unfortunately, the terminal will not be ready this year,” he said.
“However, from 2027 onwards, pilgrims will benefit from a very comfortable transit terminal.”
President Mahama expressed optimism that future Hajj exercises would be more convenient and stress-free for Ghanaian pilgrims, as infrastructure and logistical planning continue to improve.
