Serwaa Amihere Apologises After Backlash Over Controversial Comments About PRESEC

Ghanaian media personality and lawyer Serwaa Amihere has issued an unreserved apology following public backlash over remarks she made about Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC), Legon, which many described as offensive and inappropriate.

The controversy arose during a livestream recorded between takes of her programme *GH Today* on Thursday, January 15, 2026. In what she later described as a lapse in judgment, Serwaa Amihere suggested that PRESEC had become a “breeding ground” for LGBTQ activities. The comments, made in a moment of casual banter, quickly circulated on social media and drew widespread condemnation.

Her remarks prompted a strong response from the management of PRESEC, which released an official statement on Saturday, January 17, firmly rejecting the claims. The school described the comments as false, reckless, and deeply offensive, stressing that they undermined the institution’s long-standing reputation.

“For over eight decades, PRESEC has been committed to academic excellence, discipline, character formation, leadership, and the moral upbringing of young men,” the statement said. Management further noted that the comments were harmful to the school’s image and expressed appreciation to stakeholders and old students who defended the institution during the controversy.

In response to the growing criticism, Serwaa Amihere publicly apologised on January 17. Addressing the PRESEC community and its alumni, she admitted the statement was a blunder and offered an unqualified apology.

“I would like to apologise to everyone who felt offended by the comment, especially the PRESEC community and all PRESECANS. I sincerely apologise and assure you that this will not happen again,” she said.

Her apology generated mixed reactions online. While some social media users accepted the apology and described the incident as an unfortunate joke taken out of context, others criticised the initial remarks, emphasising the responsibility public figures have when speaking about respected institutions.

Despite the backlash, the apology has helped to ease tensions, with many calling for the issue to be put to rest and for focus to return to constructive public discourse.

Serwaa Amihere has since continued her media engagements, including recent appearances on social media that have drawn attention for lighter, family-oriented moments, signalling a return to normalcy following the controversy.
