The Deputy Spokesperson for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Ekua Amoakoh, has condemned attempts to attack the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential aspirant on the basis of his ethnic background, describing such actions as unacceptable in Ghana’s democratic discourse.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Angel FM, Dr. Amoakoh stressed that personal and ethnic attacks against Dr. Bawumia have no place in national politics. She argued that resorting to such tactics reflects a lack of leadership maturity and preparedness.
“Attacking Dr. Bawumia’s roots is a no-go area. If that is your approach, then perhaps you are not fit to be on the ballot,” she stated.
Dr. Amoakoh emphasized that leadership should be evaluated on competence, ideas, and merit, rather than on identity-based or personal attacks. According to her, political discourse driven by insults and ethnic sentiments undermines constructive national dialogue and hinders development.
“Leadership is about merit, not mudslinging,” she noted, adding that divisive narratives only distract from meaningful engagement on issues that truly matter to Ghanaians.
She further highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s leadership philosophy, describing it as inclusive and excellence-driven. “He does not focus on where people come from or who they are. His concern is about intelligence, hard work, and commitment. Dr. Bawumia stands for all Ghanaians,” she said.
Dr. Amoakoh also referenced the historical foundations of the NPP, noting that inclusivity has been a defining principle of the party since its inception. “A review of the party’s history, its founding members, and its traditions clearly shows that inclusiveness has always been central to the NPP,” she explained.
She concluded by calling on political actors and supporters to prioritize unity, development, and progress, and to reject divisive, identity-based politics that threaten national cohesion.
