NPP Flagbearership Race: Bryan Acheampong Touted as Unifying Force Amid Internal Divisions

A Ghanaian man has sparked widespread public debate after sharing his views on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership race, arguing that former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, represents the party’s best chance at unity ahead of the next general election.

Speaking in an interview on UTV, the man expressed concern over what he described as growing divisions within the NPP, largely driven by intense support for the two leading contenders—Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and outspoken lawmaker Kennedy Ohene Agyapong. According to him, the rivalry between supporters of the two candidates has deepened factionalism within the party, a situation he believes could negatively affect its electoral fortunes if left unresolved.

He maintained that while both Dr Bawumia and Mr Agyapong have notable strengths, their presence in the race has heightened tensions among party members. He therefore urged delegates and supporters to consider Bryan Acheampong as an alternative candidate capable of restoring internal harmony.

“The two leading candidates have their strengths, but they have also created divisions within the party,” he said. “If the NPP is serious about winning the next election, it needs a candidate who can bring everyone together.”

The interviewee further described Acheampong as a calm and stable figure whose relatively low-profile political style could help refocus the party on unity and strategy rather than internal disputes.

“For the NPP to regain power, it needs a leader who can unite all factions. In my view, that person is Bryan Acheampong,” he added.

His remarks have generated significant discussion on social media, with many Ghanaians sharing differing opinions on who is best positioned to lead the NPP into the next general election.

Prophet Elbernard’s Prophecy Sparks Fresh Debate

Meanwhile, Prophet Elbernard Nelson-Eshun, General Overseer of Spiritlife Revival Ministries, has also attracted attention online following comments related to the NPP flagbearership race scheduled for January 31, 2026.

In a prophetic message shared on social media, Prophet Elbernard claimed to have seen a vision in which Kennedy Ohene Agyapong emerged as the fifth flagbearer of the NPP. He described the vision as signalling a shift in the party’s political order, led by grassroots supporters rather than traditional power brokers.

The prophecy drew criticism from some supporters of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. One Instagram user questioned the prophet’s consistency and urged him to be mindful of the political affiliations of his followers.

In response, Prophet Elbernard defended his position in a detailed post, stating that his visions were based on personal conviction and spiritual revelation rather than political preference. He reminded critics that differing opinions and beliefs were inevitable and encouraged them to seek their own convictions rather than challenge his.

“Everyone is entitled to their own revelations,” he wrote. “Time will reveal everything.”

As the NPP approaches its flagbearership contest, debates surrounding party unity, leadership style, and spiritual predictions continue to shape public discourse, reflecting the high stakes involved in choosing the party’s next standard-bearer.
