A Nigerian woman has shared a heartbreaking account of how an ordinary visit to her cousin’s home spiralled into a tragic chain of events that resulted in loss, false accusations, and nearly a year of incarceration.
In a viral TikTok video posted by a user identified as @Awele, the woman explained that she had visited her cousin with the intention of staying for only three days. Despite her plans to leave as scheduled, her cousin persuaded her to remain for one additional night—a decision she says ultimately changed her life.
Unknown to both women at the time, there was a long-standing feud between their fathers. According to her, the family dispute had never affected their relationship and played no role in their close bond.
That night, armed robbers reportedly broke into the house and demanded their mobile phones. The woman said she immediately handed over her phone, but her cousin refused, explaining that she had previously been robbed and was unwilling to surrender it again.
The situation quickly escalated when the attackers became violent and stabbed her cousin. She was rushed to the hospital, where she fought for her life for two days before sadly passing away on the third day.
Rather than grieving together, the tragedy took a devastating turn. The deceased’s parents accused the woman of orchestrating the attack, alleging that she had been sent to harm their daughter because of the unresolved family feud.
She was subsequently arrested and detained for 11 months. During this period, she missed her graduation, while her family faced severe financial strain as they borrowed money to fund her legal defence.
The woman described watching her father break down in tears as the most painful moment of the entire ordeal, noting that the experience left deep emotional scars on her and her family.
Her story has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many users expressing sympathy and highlighting the devastating consequences of false accusations and unresolved family conflicts.
