Lady Sparks Debate After Rejecting ‘Baby Mama’ Culture, Says Marriage Must Come First

A Nigerian woman has stirred widespread reactions on social media after openly criticizing what she described as the growing “baby mama” culture in the country.

In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @it_Ruth, the lady cautioned young women against having children for men they are not married to, stressing that marriage should precede motherhood. According to her, many women end up in painful and unstable situations because they allow wealth, fame, or promises to influence life-changing decisions.

She urged Nigerian women to take a firm stand, saying:

“Nigerian girls, we have to put an end to this baby mama madness. If a man is not your husband, please don’t get pregnant for him.”

The lady emphasized that a man’s status, riches, or popularity should never pressure a woman into having a child outside wedlock. She further stated that even if Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, or award-winning singer Wizkid were to ask her to have a child for them, she would firmly decline.

According to her, many men are comfortable having children but are often unwilling to commit to marriage afterward. She added that, in her view, most Nigerian men are reluctant to marry women they already have children with.

Her stance was clear:

“Men will not want to marry a baby mama. Most Nigerian men do not want to end up marrying a baby mama. No ring, no baby. If you’re not his wife, don’t have a child for him.”

Her comments have sharply divided opinions online. While many social media users applauded her for speaking boldly and encouraging women to prioritize commitment, others argued that marriage does not always guarantee stability, happiness, or long-term commitment.

Nonetheless, the video has continued to trend, fueling ongoing conversations about relationships, marriage, and motherhood in modern Nigerian society.
