A video showing controversial Nigerian singer Habeed Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, being transported to prison in a security vehicle has sparked widespread reactions online.
The footage began trending on social media shortly after the singer was arraigned on Monday at the Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State. Portable is facing a nine-count criminal charge filed by the Nigeria Police Force.
Court Arraignment and Charges
Portable’s arraignment followed his arrest after several complaints were reportedly lodged against him, drawing renewed public attention to his conduct. According to the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the charges against the singer include assault, theft, causing grievous harm, and resisting arrest.
The police explained that the charges stem from investigations into alleged violent incidents involving the singer.
Alleged Assault Incident
Prosecutors allege that Portable assaulted his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, alongside several police officers and other individuals at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo, Ogun State, on New Year’s Day. Other alleged victims named in the charge include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.
N12 Million Car Theft Allegation
The singer is also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at ₦12 million, reportedly belonging to Ileyemi Damilola and purchased from Wally Dex Auto. Additionally, police allege that Portable obstructed and assaulted a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.
Bail Denied
The presiding judge denied Portable bail, stating that the allegedly assaulted police officer must appear in court before bail could be considered. Consequently, the singer was remanded in custody and subsequently transferred to prison.
