A disturbing video circulating widely on social media has sparked public outrage after it captured two Ghanaian police officers physically assaulting a young man suspected of mobile money (MoMo) fraud.
In the viral footage, the officers are seen repeatedly slapping the man while questioning him over an alleged attempt to defraud one of them. During the interrogation, one of the officers claimed he had previously assisted the young man with a personal issue involving his wife. He further alleged that the suspect later used his phone number in a scam attempt.
The young man, however, denied the accusation, stating that he had no knowledge of any such incident. He explained that his phone had recently been stolen at a galamsey (illegal mining) site and speculated that the fraud attempt may have been carried out by the thieves using his number.
The video has ignited serious concerns about police professionalism and the use of excessive force during investigations. Human rights advocates and social media users alike are calling on the Ghana Police Service to launch a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that justice is served in accordance with due process.
Many have emphasized the importance of respecting the rights of suspects, regardless of the allegations against them, and are demanding accountability for the officers involved.
