The legal representative of Rene Hiddink, former Technical Director of Hearts of Oak, has issued a strong warning to the Ghanaian football club, threatening to petition FIFA for the club’s dissolution over unpaid compensation.
This comes after FIFA imposed a three-window transfer ban on Hearts of Oak for failing to pay $150,000 owed to Hiddink. The amount is linked to the early termination of the Dutch coach’s contract. Hiddink, who joined the club in July 2023, was dismissed just eight months into his role.
Following his dismissal, Hiddink filed a formal complaint with FIFA. The governing body ruled in his favor, ordering Hearts of Oak to settle the debt within 90 days—a deadline the club failed to meet.
In an interview with Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, Hiddink’s lawyer, David Winnie, accused the club of acting in bad faith. He alleged that Hearts of Oak deliberately accelerated player registrations ahead of the transfer ban.
“Hearts of Oak acted dishonestly and sneakily,” Winnie said. “They knew the FIFA ban was coming, so they rushed to register players. If this behavior continues, I’ll formally request FIFA to dissolve the club.”
The FIFA-imposed ban now blocks Hearts of Oak from registering any new players—locally or internationally—until the debt is fully paid.
This latest controversy adds to the club’s growing list of issues as they approach the new season with a weakened ability to reinforce their squad.
