The La State Council has officially cautioned the organizers of the one-week funeral observance for the late highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, scheduled for August 30, 2025.
In a public statement released on Thursday, August 28, the Council acknowledged media advertisements promoting the planned memorial. However, it firmly emphasized that a traditional ban on noise-making and funerals is currently in effect throughout the La Traditional Area, making such a celebration unacceptable at this time.
Despite the advisory, the Council expressed its deepest condolences to Daddy Lumba’s family, friends, and the entire nation, recognizing the immense cultural and musical impact of the iconic musician.
The ban, which began on Monday, August 11, 2025, extends across the entire La jurisdiction, from the main township to Maalejor on the Dodowa Road, and Ayi Mensah, near the Aburi foothills.
This period, according to the Council, is a sacred time when traditional leaders engage in spiritual rituals, and as such, no funeral-related activities or noise-making of any kind will be tolerated. The statement underscored the importance of preserving the cultural and spiritual sanctity of the period.
“All persons, families, groups, and organizers are cautioned against any attempt to hold or facilitate funeral events within the La Traditional Area during this period,” the statement read. “Any such planned activity must be postponed, rescheduled, or cancelled outright.”
The ban remains in effect until Friday, September 5, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
The La State Council reiterated its support for the bereaved family and assured them that appropriate funeral arrangements can be held after the ban is lifted, in accordance with tradition and local regulations.
