Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has addressed the uncertainty surrounding striker Alexander Isak, calling the situation "difficult" amid mounting rumors of a potential transfer to Liverpool.
During a press conference on Friday, August 22, ahead of Newcastle’s upcoming Premier League clash against Liverpool at St. James’ Park on Monday, August 25, Howe acknowledged the growing tension involving the Swedish forward.
Isak recently sparked controversy with an Instagram post accusing the club of breaking promises related to a possible move. Newcastle responded quickly with an official statement rejecting the allegations.
Speaking about the situation, Howe said:
“I haven’t seen him this week, but when I do, we speak as normal—there are no personal issues. It’s a difficult situation from both sides, and it’s far from ideal for anyone involved.”
The manager confirmed that Isak has been training separately:
“He’s training later in the day and away from the main group. He’s still our player, under contract. I had hoped he’d be available for Monday’s match, but unfortunately, that won’t be the case, which is disappointing.”
Isak was a standout performer in the 2024/25 season, netting 23 goals and providing six assists across 34 league appearances. His contributions were instrumental in Newcastle's Carabao Cup triumph—ending a 74-year wait for a domestic trophy.
With the transfer window nearing its close, all eyes remain on whether Isak will remain a Magpie or make a high-profile move elsewhere.
