President Mahama Donates GHS 100,000 to Sikaman-Brofoyedu Residents for Heroic Role in Helicopter Crash Recovery
President John Dramani Mahama has extended heartfelt appreciation and financial support to 13 residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedu in the Ashanti Region, recognizing their crucial role in recovering the remains of eight victims involved in a tragic military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
In a ceremony held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, represented the former President in delivering the message of gratitude and support to the community.
The helicopter crash occurred within the Dampia Range Forest Reserve in the Adansi Akrofrom District. Among the deceased were key government officials, including the Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. All victims were on official duty at the time of the accident.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah, speaking on behalf of President Mahama, stated:
“The President has asked me to personally thank the residents who assisted in the recovery of our eight fallen men. In recognition of your bravery, we have a plaque in your honour.”
As part of the recognition and compensation, President Mahama donated GHS 100,000 to the 13 rescuers. An additional GHS 20,000 was presented to the Adansi Traditional Council to support customary rites for the deceased.
In a further show of appreciation, the President promised employment opportunities for all 13 individuals involved in the recovery efforts, based on their individual skills and qualifications. He also pledged to support infrastructural development in the area, particularly through the rehabilitation of roads.
The initiative has been widely lauded as a meaningful tribute to the courage and selflessness shown by the Sikaman-Brofoyedu community during one of the nation’s darkest moments.
