NPP Supporters Clash with NDC Chairman Asiedu Nketia at Akwatia Memorial Event


 


Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) allegedly attacked Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), during a memorial event held in Akwatia on August 29, 2025.

The incident occurred at the one-week remembrance ceremony for the late Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Kumi. The event drew politicians from various parties who gathered to pay their respects and support the bereaved family.

However, tensions escalated when a group of NPP supporters confronted and allegedly attacked Mr. Asiedu Nketia. The motive behind the confrontation remains unclear. Video footage circulating on social media shows the chaotic scenes, which have since sparked public outrage.

Many Ghanaians have condemned the incident, criticizing the behavior of the NPP supporters involved and calling for calm and tolerance in political engagements.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia, a senior political figure, has yet to release an official statement regarding the altercation.

The incident has reignited discussions around political intolerance and the need for peaceful coexistence among supporters of different parties, particularly as the nation approaches future elections.
