Popular digital marketer and social media influencer, Sage Kenny, has sparked intense debate on social media after making a bold claim about the financial status of Ghanaian youth.
Taking to his official X account (formerly Twitter), Sage Kenny asserted that every Ghanaian youth has at least GHS10,000 in their bank account, a statement that quickly went viral and drew sharp criticism.
“Every Ghanaian youth has at least 10,000 Cedis in their bank accounts,” he posted.
According to Kenny, despite the economic challenges faced by many, young people in Ghana are far from being broke. He suggests that conversations portraying Ghanaian youth as struggling financially are exaggerated and misleading.
However, his comments did not sit well with many Ghanaians online. A wave of backlash followed, with several users accusing him of being out of touch with reality. Some young people who are unemployed or underpaid expressed frustration, claiming Kenny’s comments were both dismissive and misleading.
Critics argue that the influencer is using sensational statements to gain attention, while others say his generalization ignores the real economic struggles faced by a large portion of Ghana’s youth population.
Despite the backlash, Sage Kenny has stood by his statement, refusing to retract or clarify further.
