The Oti Region is set to experience a major economic boost with plans for a 500-megawatt biomass power plant. Spearheaded by the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, the initiative is designed to provide a stable and reliable energy source to stimulate industrial and economic growth.
The project was highlighted during a forum organized by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) in partnership with the Oti Regional Coordinating Council (ORCC) in Dambai.
Key Highlights:
- Energy Independence: The biomass plant will reduce reliance on traditional power sources.
- Local Business Growth: The project is expected to create opportunities for entrepreneurs and support local industries.
- Employment Creation: Jobs will be generated for the local population.
- Sustainable Supply: Collaboration with traditional authorities in Damanko, Nkwanta North District, will see 25,000–30,000 hectares of Napier grass cultivated to feed the biomass plant.
Nana Mprah Besemuna III, former President of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs, endorsed the project, noting that it would address the region’s current unstable electricity supply. Stakeholders are optimistic that the biomass plant will drive continuous industrial activity and economic development.
The project promises a transformative impact on the Oti Region, enabling businesses to operate around the clock and creating substantial employment and growth opportunities.
