The General Secretary of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to reassign or replace Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, citing concerns over his performance in handling corruption cases from the previous administration.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu programme, Mr. Koomson criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for slow and ineffective progress in major investigations.
“The Special Prosecutor is not on top of his game. We are not seeing any real progress in prosecuting those who looted state funds under the previous government,” he said.
He also questioned the OSP’s credibility, suggesting its creation under former President Akufo-Addo was politically motivated.
“The Office of the Special Prosecutor was created with ill intentions — not to fight corruption genuinely, but to target members of the NDC,” Mr. Koomson alleged.
Mr. Koomson urged President Mahama to demonstrate commitment to the “Reset Agenda” by taking decisive action to restore public confidence in anti-corruption efforts.
“If the President truly wants to reset the system, he must begin with the OSP. The office needs fresh leadership and renewed purpose,” he stressed.
He further criticized Mr. Agyebeng for prioritizing media appearances over tangible results.
“He keeps holding press conferences without securing any meaningful prosecutions. Ghanaians are tired of talk; we want action.”
These comments come shortly after Mr. Agyebeng announced plans to charge former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and five other ex-officials by the end of November 2025, related to alleged corruption and conflicts of interest in the Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) contract.
Mr. Koomson concluded by urging the appointment of a “more competent and impartial” prosecutor to strengthen Ghana’s anti-corruption framework.
