International music star Akon has publicly accused his former associate, Be.I, of fraud, warning fans to steer clear of him and any business dealings involving his name.
In a video shared across social media and captured by AllHipHop, Akon alleged that Be.I has been impersonating him to deceive fans and solicit money under false pretenses.
“Look at this face,” Akon began. “He goes by the name Be.I. He’s a fraud, a scammer. An impostor, a straight-up leech. He has no ethical boundaries—he’ll gain your trust and then scam you, plain and simple.”
Akon further urged anyone who had given money to Be.I to take immediate action. “If you gave him money, go back and retrieve it because you’ve been scammed. He’s not going to deliver anything. He is not affiliated with Konvict Muzik, Kon Live Distribution, or any entity linked to me.”
He concluded by describing Be.I as a “superfan” who falsely claimed connections to his music labels, saying, “If you’ve done business with him thinking he’s part of the Konvict brand, you need to get your money back. You’ve been deceived.”
Be.I Responds and Alleges Hypocrisy
Be.I issued a response via Instagram Stories, dismissing Akon’s accusations and leveling similar claims against the artist. Acknowledging he had made mistakes in the past, he responded sarcastically: “But who’s the scammer?”—a clear reference to Akon’s much-publicized, but now uncertain, Akon City project.
He also hinted that their falling out may have been personal, implying it involved a dispute over a woman.
Questions Surrounding Akon City
Be.I’s reference to Akon City comes amid recent reports that the Senegalese government has allegedly abandoned plans for the futuristic, cryptocurrency-powered city Akon once envisioned.
According to The North Africa Post, local residents expressed frustration over the project's lack of visible progress since its 2018 announcement. The report indicated growing skepticism about the city’s viability and future.
In response, Akon addressed the backlash during an appearance on the Minas’ House Podcast, stating:
“You can’t fight the internet. I’ve got teams working to counter all the false narratives. Just last week, we faced over 23 million fake ads about Akon City. It’s all part of a broader agenda. When something has the potential to shift people’s thinking, the media tries to destroy it.”
Despite public criticism, Akon maintains that efforts toward building the city are ongoing and that misinformation is fueling much of the backlash.
