A man identified as Mohammed Ali has been sentenced to 10 years in prison with hard labour after being convicted of robbery and unlawful possession of firearms in Tumu, located in Ghana’s Upper West Region.
The sentence was handed down on Monday, August 11, 2025, by His Honour Jonathan Avoogo at the Wa Magistrate Court.
Ali’s arrest followed a road accident in Bugubelle on July 30, 2025. During the police response to the incident, officers discovered a firearm and ammunition in his possession. He also disclosed the names of several accomplices who are currently on the run. According to the Upper West Regional Police Command, efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the criminal activities.
Ali faced multiple charges, including robbery, preparation to commit a crime, and unlawful possession of a firearm. He pleaded guilty to all counts, leading to his conviction and subsequent sentencing.
The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order in the region. A spokesperson stated, “We are working tirelessly to ensure all those involved face justice. The safety of our communities remains our top priority.”
Residents are urged to report any suspicious activity to assist in the ongoing investigations and the arrest of the remaining suspects.
