Ghanaian musician Captain Planet has sparked widespread debate on social media after expressing concern over the revealing outfits worn by some attendees at the 2025 Tidal Rave event, held on Saturday, November 14, at La Palm Beach.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), he questioned whether some of the young female attendees were “models or porn stars,” adding:
“I just dey see some dressings from yesterday’s Tidal Rave. Chale, some of these small small girls, I don’t know whether them be models or pornstars. What the hell is happening in Ghana?”
His comments quickly ignited mixed reactions. While some users agreed with his views on modesty and decency—especially among younger attendees—others dismissed his criticism, suggesting he was being overly conservative given that the event took place at a beach, where lighter clothing is expected.
The discussion has revived ongoing conversations about dress codes, self-expression, and cultural expectations at public events in Ghana. Supporters of Captain Planet argue that societal values should still guide dressing choices, while others insist that individuals should be free to wear what they feel comfortable in, particularly in relaxed settings like beach festivals.
Despite the controversy, Tidal Rave 2025 was a major success, drawing large crowds and featuring performances from top Ghanaian and international artists including Black Sherif, Gyakie, Moliy, Darko Vibes, OlivetheBoy, and Shatta Wale. Nigerian star Ayra Starr also delivered an energetic performance with hits such as “Hot Body” and “Dat Girl.”
The event, organised in partnership with the Black Star Experience (BSE) under the Office of the President, was marketed as a celebration of music, fashion, and entertainment—although Captain Planet’s remarks indicate that some attendees’ fashion choices may have crossed a line for some observers.
