The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly distanced itself from controversial remarks made by the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South, Kwaku Asante Boateng, describing them as unfortunate and unacceptable.
The MP, during an interview on Accra-based Adom TV, allegedly referred to former Vice President and NPP flagbearer hopeful Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as “an outsider” and “a slave brought in to serve us,” implying he was unfit to lead the party.
In an official statement issued on Saturday, November 1, by the Party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP condemned the lawmaker’s comments, stressing that they do not reflect the values or principles of the party.
“The NPP reiterates its longstanding commitment to inclusivity, equality, and national cohesion,” the statement read. “Membership and recognition within the Party are not defined by background or identity, but by one’s loyalty, commitment, and service to the NPP’s ideals and the national interest.”
Mr. Kodua Frimpong reaffirmed that the NPP remains a party of unity, dignity, and progress, dedicated to upholding respect for all citizens regardless of ethnicity, faith, or origin.
He further assured Ghanaians that the party will continue to promote tolerance and inclusion within its ranks and across the country’s political landscape.
