Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has denied being aware of any efforts within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remove him from his position.**

Speaking on *Kokrokoo* on Peace FM on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, Afenyo-Markin, who represents Efutu in Parliament, told host Kwame Sefa Kayi that he was hearing of such claims for the first time.

“I’m not aware of anything like that,” Afenyo-Markin said. “This is the first time I’m hearing about it from you.”

Kwame Sefa Kayi highlighted that the issue had been widely discussed in the media, bringing Afenyo-Markin’s attention to a recent post by veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt on the social media platform X.

In his post on November 21, 2025, Pratt suggested that Afenyo-Markin was facing pressure, noting that “there have been attempts to remove him.” Pratt also referenced comments made by Okaikwei Central MP Patrick Yaw Boamah, which seemed to corroborate the claims.

“There are very strong indications that the Minority Leader in Parliament, Honourable Afenyo-Markin, is not sitting pretty, and that there have been attempts to remove him,” Pratt wrote.

He continued: “Patrick Yaw Boamah has confirmed that there were serious efforts to remove Afenyo-Markin as Majority Leader during the 9th Parliament.”

In an interview on *Asempa FM*’s *Ekosii Sen* on November 17, 2025, Boamah explained that he had defended Afenyo-Markin when there were prior attempts to oust him. Boamah, who is a member of the NPP, also said there was no need to replace Afenyo-Markin at that time.

“I was one of the people who defended him when some individuals tried to unseat him,” Boamah stated. “We are grooming young leaders in the party, and there was no reason to change him.”

Boamah added that Afenyo-Markin had not even completed a full year as Majority Leader before the party’s defeat in the 2024 election.

When asked whether he was considering a presidential bid, Boamah responded: “God has His time for everything. I am qualified to run for the presidential primaries, but I believe everything must happen at the right time.”

Kwame Sefa Kayi pressed Afenyo-Markin further on the allegations, but the Minority Leader reiterated that he could not comment definitively until he had spoken with Patrick Yaw Boamah directly.

“Until I meet him and understand the full backstory, I cannot speak to it,” Afenyo-Markin said.
