Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has opened up about a disturbing incident during one of her performances, revealing that she once struck a male fan with her microphone after he touched her inappropriately.
Speaking in a recent interview about the challenges faced by female performers, the “Jeje” hitmaker explained that the incident occurred at a show where security and crowd control were poorly managed.
“I hate it when people try to touch me when I’m going on stage, especially fans,” she recounted. “One time, someone pressed me so hard — I think it was my front bit — that I lost it. The first thing I did was react to protect myself.”
According to Sista Afia, she instinctively hit the man with her microphone, and the impact was so severe that he was later taken to the hospital.
The singer noted that the matter was never reported publicly and was soon forgotten, but she believes it highlights an important issue — the urgent need for better security and respect for performers at public events.
“Sometimes, organisers fail to protect us from such harassment. It’s not easy being on stage when people cross boundaries like that,” she added.
Sista Afia has since used her platform to advocate for stronger safety measures for female artistes and other entertainers during live shows.
