The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operation Secretariat (NAIMOS) Task Force has apprehended 11 Chinese nationals and confiscated several pieces of heavy-duty equipment during a targeted anti-galamsey operation in Bole Bamboi, located in the Savannah Region.
The raid, which took place on Friday, July 25, was based on credible intelligence indicating unauthorized small-scale mining activities in the area. Authorities confirmed that the suspects were caught in the act at the site.
Equipment and Items Seized:
- 4 tipper trucks (Registration Numbers: GT 7048-25, GT 7035-25, GT 7265-25, GT 7243-25)

This operation forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal mining, locally referred to as galamsey, which has been a major driver of environmental degradation, including deforestation, water pollution, and destruction of farmlands throughout Ghana.
Minister for Government Communications, Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed the arrests in a Facebook post on July 27, applauding the efforts of the Task Force and reaffirming the government’s unwavering commitment to combating illegal mining and preserving the environment.
The arrested individuals are expected to face prosecution under Ghana’s mining and immigration laws.
Authorities have urged the general public to report illegal mining operations, assuring that all whistleblowers will be protected and their identities kept confidential.
