Behind the Music: The Women in Daddy Lumba’s Private Life

As tributes continue to pour in following the passing of Ghanaian Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, new insights are emerging about his closely guarded personal life—particularly the women who played pivotal roles in it.

Born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, Daddy Lumba was widely admired not only for his timeless music and enigmatic public persona but also for his discretion regarding his private affairs. Despite his fame, he remained fiercely protective of his family, rarely offering the public a glimpse into his domestic world. He was a father of seven children and shared his life with two women who stood by him over the years.

Akosua Serwaa – The First Wife and Lifelong Supporter

Daddy Lumba met his first wife, Akosua Serwaa, during his early years in Germany. A fellow Ghanaian, Serwaa was a constant source of support throughout his musical journey. While she stayed in Germany, her presence and influence remained integral to his personal and professional life.

The couple had four children together, including Calvin Kwadwo Fosu and Nana Ama, who are publicly known. Lumba maintained a close bond with his family despite the demands of his career. At the time of his death on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra, he was still married to Akosua Serwaa. He was 60 years old.

Priscilla Ofori Atta – The Enigmatic “Odo Broni”

In addition to his marriage to Akosua Serwaa, Daddy Lumba also shared a long-term relationship with Priscilla Ofori Atta, popularly known as Odo Broni—a nickname immortalized by one of his hit songs.

Together, they had three children, though their identities have remained largely private. Lumba was intentional about shielding this part of his life from public scrutiny, and only one photo of their youngest child has ever surfaced.

Despite the secrecy, Odo Broni is believed to have been a significant figure in Lumba’s later years. Her relationship with his extended family, however, has occasionally sparked speculation and public discussion.

A Legacy Both Public and Private

Throughout his illustrious career, Daddy Lumba drew a clear line between his public achievements and private life. His unwavering dedication to protecting his loved ones from media attention earned him respect, even as it piqued the curiosity of fans.

Now, as Ghanaians and music lovers worldwide mourn his passing, attention turns to those he kept closest—Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni—the women who shared in the triumphs and trials of a truly iconic life.

Daddy Lumba’s legacy lives on, not only through his extensive musical catalogue but also through his children and the two women who were at the heart of his private world.
