Anti-immigration demonstrations were held across multiple cities and towns in Poland on Saturday, with turnout varying by location. According to police, the largest protest took place in the southern city of Katowice, attracting approximately 3,000 participants. Other rallies across the country drew several hundred demonstrators or fewer.
The protests were organized largely by the far-right Konfederacja party, along with various nationalist groups. Leaders from Konfederacja and members of the opposition Law and Justice party voiced alarm over what they claim is a rise in illegal immigration. However, official government data does not support the existence of such a surge.
"Without closing Poland to illegal immigration, without launching deportation efforts, and without rejecting political correctness, our national security will continue to decline," said Konfederacja co-chairman Krzysztof Bosak during a speech in Białystok, a city in eastern Poland.
Some demonstrations paused for a moment of silence to honor a 24-year-old Polish woman who was recently murdered in the city of Toruń. A Venezuelan national has been arrested in connection with the case.
In Warsaw, anti-immigration protests were met with nearby counter-demonstrations. Despite the heightened tensions, authorities reported no violent incidents.
While Poland has experienced an increase in immigration over the last decade, recent statistics show a decline in migrant arrivals this year compared to previous years.
Earlier in July, Poland reinstated border checks with Germany and Lithuania following Germany’s decision to return asylum seekers. These actions mirrored measures Germany adopted in 2023 along its borders with Poland and the Czech Republic.
Additionally, in March 2025, Poland suspended the right of migrants crossing from Belarus to apply for asylum, further tightening its stance on immigration.
