Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has strongly criticized the previous administration led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing them of mismanaging Ghana's economy for personal gain.
Speaking to the media following the presentation of the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament on July 24, Ablakwa accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration of operating the economy like a Ponzi scheme. According to him, government resources were misused for corrupt purposes, leaving the Ghanaian people worse off.
“For eight years, the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government mismanaged the economy. They operated it like a Ponzi scheme—creating, looting, and sharing the country’s wealth in dubious ways that brought no real benefit to the Ghanaian people. That is why they were severely punished at the polls,” Ablakwa stated.
He emphasized that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken valuable lessons from the electorate’s rejection of the previous administration and is committed to governing responsibly.
“We are determined not to repeat such recklessness. The overwhelming mandate Ghanaians have given us will be used to deliver real improvements in their lives,” he noted.
Ablakwa also praised Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and President John Dramani Mahama for their leadership and strategic economic direction, which he believes reflect deep experience and commitment to national development.
“I am extremely proud of our finance minister and fully impressed by the vision and guidance of President John Mahama. His experience, both in government and opposition, has prepared him to restore Ghana’s economy and place us firmly on the path to prosperity. We must never again be a country forced into debt restructuring or one where senior citizens cannot access their life savings,” he added.
