King Promise Shares Emotional Tribute, Reveals Plans for Joint Album with Late Highlife Legend Daddy Lumba

Ghanaian Afrobeats star King Promise has revealed that he was working on a joint album with legendary Highlife icon Daddy Lumba before the music veteran’s unexpected passing.

In a heartfelt message posted to social media, King Promise—known for hits like Terminator—reflected on the time he spent with the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu, better known as Daddy Lumba, and the creative journey they had just begun.

“I write this with a heavy heart,” he began. “Two months ago, the legend and I agreed to work on a joint album.”

According to King Promise, Daddy Lumba had been keeping a low profile, but had warmly welcomed him into his home to initiate the collaboration. Their vision was to blend Lumba’s timeless Highlife sound with King Promise’s modern Afrobeats style.

“He had been away from the public eye, but he invited me into his personal space,” he shared. “We planned to sample some of his classics and fuse them with a new sound. He told me how much he appreciated my music—it meant everything.”

The young artist described the surreal experience of sitting in Daddy Lumba’s living room, receiving personal advice and encouragement from a figure he had long admired.

“Imagine Daddy Lumba telling you he’s proud of you. I was speechless.”

Tragically, what was meant to be a surprise for fans has now become a poignant memory. Daddy Lumba passed away on July 26, 2025, turning their planned collaboration into a what-could-have-been.

“I was hoping the news this morning was just another hoax,” King Promise wrote. “But sadly, it wasn’t. Rest well, Papa. My deepest condolences to the family. Your legacy will live on through all of us. Sleep peacefully.”

Daddy Lumba's passing marks a significant loss for Ghana's music scene. A towering figure in Highlife for decades, his influence has shaped generations of African musicians and will continue to inspire long into the future.
