Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region, was tragically gunned down by unidentified assailants on the evening of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, outside his home in Asawase.
According to eyewitness accounts, two men arrived at the scene on a motorbike around 8:40 p.m. One of them, reportedly armed with an AK-47 rifle, opened fire on the chief before both suspects quickly fled.
In an interview with GhPage, a family member of the deceased, Kwabena Kodua, confirmed that the chief was shot twice. Kodua stated the attack was swift and calculated, leaving no chance for bystanders to intervene or pursue the suspects.
Shock and Grief Grip Family and Community
The murder has left both the chief’s family and the wider Asawase community in a state of mourning and disbelief. According to his brother, the chief’s final conversation with him had touched on the ongoing conflict in Bawku—a detail that has raised suspicions of a potential link between the violence in that region and his assassination.
Tragically, shortly after receiving the news of her son’s death, the chief’s mother also reportedly passed away, adding a deeper layer of sorrow to the unfolding tragedy.
