Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu Bempah, has described former Suame MP, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, as the worst-performing Member of Parliament in the history of the party.
Speaking during an interview on Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, Bempah criticized Mensah-Bonsu’s performance, particularly within the Ashanti Region, asserting that the former Majority Leader’s leadership in the Suame Constituency left much to be desired.
“A visit to his constituency will reveal just how ineffective he was. His record does not merit serious attention, and his views should be taken with a pinch of salt,” Bempah stated.
According to him, Mensah-Bonsu's continued presence in Parliament after the 2016 elections was largely due to the intervention of senior political figures who campaigned on his behalf, despite growing unpopularity.
“He was the most unpopular MP after 2016. It was only through the support of influential politicians, including Alban Bagbin, that he managed to retain his seat. He contributed little to the development of his constituency and was broadly rejected by his people,” Bempah added.
These remarks were made in response to recent comments by Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, who reportedly downplayed the influence of NPP presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong, referring to him as merely a “fanciful talker” who should not be taken seriously by party delegates.
Bempah’s comments have added fuel to ongoing tensions within the NPP as internal debates continue ahead of the party’s key decisions on leadership and direction.
