Ghana’s energy sector is showing clear signs of recovery, thanks to reforms and strategic interventions, according to Energy and Green Transition Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House on Wednesday, July 16, the Minister noted that the sector, particularly the power industry, is becoming more stable.
“We can confidently say the energy sector is stabilizing,” Jinapor stated. “The technical and financial reforms we've introduced, along with infrastructure upgrades, are beginning to produce real results.”
He highlighted a significant reduction in the power outages that had previously disrupted the country. “When we took office, power cuts were common across Ghana. Today, we are seeing a far more reliable and consistent electricity supply—something the public can see for themselves.”
Jinapor also addressed concerns surrounding the recent scheduled maintenance at the ENI gas facility. Despite fears of potential blackouts, he confirmed that there were no power disruptions during the maintenance period.
He acknowledged the importance of electricity in the daily lives of Ghanaians, even referencing recent social media humor about his role. “Some joked that I forgot to turn off the lights. It just shows how deeply electricity is woven into our everyday lives. That’s why we are committed to maintaining and building on the progress we’ve made.”
The Minister concluded by reaffirming the government’s long-term commitment to energy sector reforms aimed at delivering sustainable and reliable power for all citizens.
