Veteran politician and NPP stalwart Sammi Awuku has expressed his deep sorrow following the passing of Ghanaian highlife legend, Daddy Lumba, who died on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
In a moving tribute posted on social media, Awuku reflected on the profound impact Daddy Lumba’s music had on his personal journey—especially the song “Ankwanoma,” which he described as a lifelong source of inspiration and introspection.
“I never imagined that the very song that once gave me strength would now bring me grief,” Awuku wrote. “Ankwanoma was more than music to me—it was a reminder that life is short and death often comes without warning.”
Awuku went on to describe Ankwanoma as his favorite track from the legendary musician. He praised its message about the fleeting nature of life and the quiet inevitability of death, noting that its meaning had taken on a new, painful significance.
“Lumba had a rare gift—he could sing what many of us struggled to say. He wrapped life's deepest truths in melodies, and now, just as he sang, his own time has come.”
Awuku closed his tribute by honoring Daddy Lumba’s enduring legacy:
“Some voices never fade—they echo through the songs they leave behind. DL will forever be a legend. Rest well, DL. Your music touched lives.”
