The CEO of Joy Industries, widely known as Mr. Jay D, has stirred controversy with remarks made following the death of Ghanaian music legend Daddy Lumba. While many across the country mourn the passing of the iconic musician, Mr. Jay D has taken a different stance, publicly claiming that the late artist left behind unresolved financial obligations.
In a statement reportedly shared with GhPage, Mr. Jay D asserted, “I can never pretend,” alleging that Daddy Lumba owed him and his team both an unspecified amount of money and a customized Toyota Tundra pickup. “So don’t expect any message from me. He still owes us—cash and a Toyota Tundra,” he stated.
These claims are not new. In September 2022, while Daddy Lumba was still alive, Mr. Jay D made similar accusations. However, the celebrated musician never issued a public response.
Mr. Jay D’s decision to reiterate the allegations after Daddy Lumba’s passing has sparked widespread debate. While some support his call for accountability, others criticize the timing and tone, arguing that it's inappropriate to raise such issues immediately after someone’s death.
Despite the cultural norms in Ghana that discourage speaking negatively about the deceased, Mr. Jay D maintains his position, emphasizing that financial obligations should be acknowledged regardless of timing.
As tributes continue to honor Daddy Lumba’s enduring legacy in Ghanaian music, this emerging dispute adds a controversial footnote to his memory.
