In response to a surge in violent crime, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has announced a ban on the use of motorbikes and face masks in Kumasi and the greater Ashanti Region after 7:00 PM.
According to reports obtained by GHPage, the decision follows a series of criminal incidents—particularly murders—believed to be carried out predominantly at night by individuals using motorbikes and face masks to conceal their identities and evade capture.
The Minister’s directive is aimed at curbing these criminal activities by limiting tools often associated with their execution. Effective immediately, residents and visitors in the Ashanti Region are prohibited from operating motorbikes or wearing face masks after 7:00 PM.
This measure is part of broader security efforts intended to restore public safety and protect lives and property in the region.
The announcement has sparked public discussion online and on social media platforms, with mixed reactions regarding its effectiveness and impact on the daily lives of citizens who rely on motorbikes for transportation.
Dr. Amoakohene has urged all residents to comply with the new regulation to support law enforcement agencies in their crime-fighting efforts.
