The family of the late Ghanaian highlife legend, Daddy Lumba (Charles Kwadwo Fosu), has issued a firm statement declaring that Odo Broni, who was reportedly engaged to the musician, will not be allowed to lead or organize his funeral.
In an exclusive interview with GHPage, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, the family head and uncle of the late musician, emphasized that traditional customs assign funeral responsibilities solely to the deceased's family—not to individuals who were not officially married to the deceased.
“We are the ones mandated by tradition to organize the funeral of our son—not Odo Broni,” Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu stated.
“She was only engaged to Charles [Daddy Lumba] and has no traditional or customary right to lead any funeral ceremony.”
The family further noted that, prior to finalizing any funeral arrangements, they intend to formally notify former President John Dramani Mahama and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, recognizing Daddy Lumba's status as a national and cultural icon.
Additionally, the family issued a stern warning to Odo Broni. Should she attempt to independently organize a separate funeral or memorial for the late artist, the family will take decisive steps to stop her.
“If she dares to go ahead with a separate funeral, we will make her understand that tradition still exists—even in these modern times,” Owusu cautioned.
This statement comes amid ongoing tension between the family and Odo Broni. Previous reports indicated that she has allegedly refused to communicate with the family head following Lumba's passing.
