Public Backlash as Archipalago Announces Tribute Song for Daddy Lumba

Ghanaians have reacted strongly to an announcement by social media personality and aspiring musician Archipalago, who revealed plans to release a tribute song in honor of the late highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.

Following the heartbreaking news of Daddy Lumba’s passing, Archipalago shared an emotional video on his social media platforms in which he tearfully expressed his sorrow. In the video, he referred to the late icon as his "idol" and a major influence on his life and career.

Shortly after posting the video, Archipalago took to his social media channels to declare his intention to record and release a tribute track to commemorate the music icon's legacy.

However, his announcement was not well-received by many Ghanaians. Social media platforms quickly filled with comments and pleas urging Archipalago to reconsider, with users expressing concerns that his music might not appropriately honor the memory of such a respected figure.

Some netizens humorously, yet seriously, begged him not to release the song, with comments like “Please have mercy on our ears” trending online. The general sentiment was that Ghanaians were already grieving and preferred silence to what they fear might be an “ear-disturbing” track.

In response to the backlash, Archipalago defended his intentions, posting:
"What’s wrong with doing a tribute song for my senior in the industry Daddy Lumba? We’re all from Oseikrom, so what’s your problem?"

Despite his defense, the pushback continues, as fans of Daddy Lumba urge for more thoughtful and musically fitting tributes from established artists with proven track records in the industry.
