Mr. Mohammed Abdul-Salam, Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), has been honored with the prestigious Gold Award at the 8th Ghana Business Leaders Excellence Awards, in recognition of his exceptional leadership and contributions to national revenue mobilization through the lottery sector.
The annual awards ceremony, organized by Top Brass Ghana, celebrates individuals and organizations whose leadership and innovation have positively impacted Ghana’s economic development. This year’s event, themed “National Development Through Dynamic Business Leadership,” also marked Ghana’s 65th Anniversary of Republican Status.
Mr. Abdul-Salam was recognized for his outstanding efforts in transforming the NLA into a more efficient and impactful institution. In addition to his local achievements, he was recently appointed Vice-President of the African Lotteries Association (ALA), a testament to his growing influence on the continental stage.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Abdul-Salam expressed profound gratitude to the organizers and dedicated the award to the management and staff of the NLA. He attributed the success to their collective effort and unwavering dedication. He also announced that the Authority is set to introduce reforms aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and increasing revenue generation.
“While we create opportunities for our patrons to play and win, we remain equally committed to supporting the vulnerable in society. Through the Good Causes Foundation, we will continue to invest in health, education, youth and sports development, and arts and culture—as mandated by Section 2(3) of the National Lotto Act, 2006 (Act 722),” Mr. Abdul-Salam emphasized.
Several other institutions and individuals were also recognized for excellence in their respective fields. These include:
- The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Ghana Ltd. – Manufacturing Sector
- Atwima Kwanwoma Rural Bank Plc – Rural Banking Sector
- Azmera Restaurant and Jofel Catering Services – Catering and Hospitality
- Robert and Sons Ghana Ltd. – Healthcare and Optical Services
Chairing the event was Mr. Stephane Miezan, President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who congratulated the awardees and encouraged them to embrace innovation and bold leadership to propel Ghanaian businesses onto the global stage.
