Morgan Gibbs-White Commits Future to Nottingham Forest with New Three-Year Deal

Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White has signed a new three-year contract, solidifying his commitment to the club amid speculation about a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 25-year-old, whose previous deal was set to expire in two years, attracted significant interest from Spurs, with reports indicating the North London club had planned to activate a £60 million release clause in his contract. However, Forest contested Tottenham's approach, reportedly considering legal action over a possible breach of a confidentiality agreement related to the clause.

In a statement shared on social media, Forest described Gibbs-White’s new deal as a “record contract” for the club. Since joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2022 for a fee of up to £42.5 million, the England international has made 118 appearances, scoring 18 goals and providing 28 assists. His contributions were pivotal in helping the club secure a seventh-place finish last season and qualification for European competition.

“I’ve felt at home at Forest from the moment I arrived,” Gibbs-White said. “The support from the fans, my team-mates, and everyone around the club has been unbelievable. I believe in what we’re building here. With the backing of Mr. Marinakis and the enormous ambition he has, I want to be part of making something special. I’m excited for what’s to come.”

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis praised the midfielder’s decision to stay, stating: “There was significant interest from various clubs, but we were determined to build our future with Morgan at the heart of it. I promised our fans we would not only compete, but grow stronger every season. Today is another big step in that journey.”

Earlier this month, sources told BBC Sport that Forest were angered by Tottenham’s conduct in their attempt to acquire Gibbs-White. The club maintained that Spurs had not been granted permission to speak with the player, a requirement under Premier League regulations.

Despite the transfer speculation, Gibbs-White returned to pre-season training as scheduled and has featured in friendly matches against Monaco and Fulham.

With the contract dispute seemingly resolved, Forest fans will now look forward to seeing Gibbs-White continue to play a central role in the club’s ambitions, both domestically and in Europe.
