Renowned security and international relations expert, Dr. Vladimir Antwi-Danso, has cautioned that relying solely on military and police deployments will not resolve the enduring conflict in Bawku. He urged national stakeholders to address the underlying historical, political, and social drivers fueling the unrest.
Speaking during an interview on Channel One Newsroom, Dr. Antwi-Danso emphasized the multidimensional nature of the conflict. “Military presence, police presence in their numbers will not solve the problem,” he stated. “There are several pillars propping up the conflict. It could be history that has not been properly told, and we’re adding to it or distorting it.”
He cited misinformation, political interference, media misrepresentation, and intra-community miscommunication as major factors sustaining the crisis. “It may be the media—the way we handle it. It may be the people themselves or intra-community miscommunication. It could be politics,” he explained.
Dr. Antwi-Danso likened the conflict to a structure supported by multiple props. “Until you remove these supports one by one, the conflict will persist. Military intervention alone serves only as a temporary measure—a stopgap,” he warned.
