Los Angeles, July 20, 2025 — A tragic incident unfolded early Sunday morning in East Hollywood when a car rammed into a crowd outside a nightclub, leaving at least 30 people injured. Authorities are investigating the crash as a potentially intentional act.
The collision occurred around 2:00 a.m. near the Vermont Hollywood music venue, where a large group—mostly women—was waiting in line for a reggae and hip hop event. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), seven people are in critical condition and six others suffered serious injuries.
Witnesses say the driver of a grey Nissan Versa made a U-turn before accelerating into a taco stand and valet podium, ultimately striking the crowd. Shocking images from the scene show the vehicle mangled on the sidewalk, surrounded by debris and a strong police presence.
When Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers arrived, they found bystanders had already pulled the driver from the car and were attacking him. Amid the chaos, a man reportedly shot the driver before fleeing the scene. The suspect, described as a bald Hispanic male wearing a blue jersey and possibly carrying a silver revolver, remains at large.
The driver—believed to have been intoxicated—was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. His current condition has not been disclosed.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass responded to the incident, calling it a "heartbreaking tragedy." In a public statement, she offered support to the victims and confirmed that a full investigation is underway.
LAFD Captain Adam VanGerpen described the scene as “extremely chaotic,” noting that many civilians attempted to assist the injured before first responders arrived. All victims were transported to nearby hospitals and trauma centers.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the motive and circumstances of the crash.
