A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former staffer at the Jubilee House, Samuel Bryan Buabeng, has refuted claims that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo failed to empower the youth and social media activists within the party.
According to Buabeng, President Akufo-Addo gave numerous young NPP members opportunities to serve in government. However, many of these beneficiaries did not extend similar support to others in the party. Instead, he accused them of becoming greedy, self-centered, and intoxicated by power, ultimately harming the party’s internal unity and public image.
“Where state institutions and ministries had no deputies or only one director, the President created two or three positions just so that our own people could be employed,” Buabeng stated. “The real problem is that many of those who benefited failed to treat people well. Some became unbearably greedy, behaving as if the future belonged to them alone, even orchestrating attacks against the very government that supported them.”
Buabeng emphasized that while the party may have experienced internal grievances, it is time to put differences aside and unite in preparation for the 2028 general elections.
In a detailed social media post, he dismissed comparisons being made between the Akufo-Addo administration and recent appointments of National Democratic Congress (NDC) activists, describing such claims as “false and misleading.”
“I have seen some of our own members pushing the false narrative that President Akufo-Addo did nothing for NPP social media activists simply because an NDC activist has been appointed as an Information and Public Affairs Officer at a High Commission. That claim is a big, fat lie,” he wrote.
Buabeng highlighted several young NPP figures who received appointments under President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, including Joojo Rocky Obeng, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, Charles Nii Teiko Tagoe, Fatimatu Abubakar, Salam Mustapha, Yaw Preko, Gideon Boako, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Francis Asenso-Boakye, Aliu Fawaz, Kofi Tonto, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeini, Samuel A. Jinapor, P.K. Sarpong, and Kofi Baah Agyapong, among others.
He also cited Kow Essuman, who was first appointed as Legal Counsel to the President and later became Secretary to the President, describing his elevation as “one of the highest positions ever given to a social media activist.”
Buabeng reiterated that the real challenge facing the NPP was not a lack of opportunities but rather the poor conduct of some appointees.
“We may all have legitimate grievances, but it is pointless to keep crying over spilt milk. What matters now is unity, discipline, and hard work. Let us march forward together and do right by all who believe in our tradition,” he urged.
“Power is not won through bitterness and constant complaints. It is won through focus and collective effort.”
