The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has swiftly refuted online reports claiming that Springfield Energy CEO Kevin Okyere was arrested in Dubai.
In an official statement released on November 2, EOCO described a publication by the online portal Novareport as false, emphasizing that the agency has neither arrested nor facilitated the detention of the businessman.
“We have taken notice of a publication alleging that one Kevin Okyere has been arrested or detained in Dubai following what the news portal claims is EOCO’s failure to act on a petition,” the statement said. “Contrary to these claims, EOCO currently has two active investigations involving Springfield Energy.”
The Office highlighted that it has received a petition against Springfield Energy and is also handling “an ongoing case between BOST and Springfield Energy,” stressing that investigations must precede any arrests.
“It is the policy directive of EOCO’s leadership that investigations should guide arrests, not the reverse,” the statement continued. “The BOST-Springfield matter is of particular priority due to its immediate impact on BOST’s finances and the local economy.”
EOCO expressed disappointment that Novareport published the story without verifying the facts.
“It is regrettable that Novareport did not seek clarification before publishing this false story,” the release added.
Reaffirming its commitment to combating organized crime, EOCO urged the public to disregard the misleading report.
“We urge the public to disregard these false claims and to note that EOCO is actively managing not one, but two investigations involving Springfield Energy,” the statement concluded.
