Public affairs commentator Mahdi Shehu has strongly criticized former United States President Donald Trump for his recent threat to initiate military action in Nigeria under the pretext of protecting Christians.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday night, Shehu described Trump as a warmonger and accused the United States of hypocrisy concerning religion, morality, human rights, and democracy.
“America Is the Biggest Pretender” – Shehu
Shehu dismissed Trump’s claim of defending persecuted Christians in Nigeria as mere hypocrisy and religious posturing.
“There is no greater pretender about religion, morality, equality, human rights, justice, and democracy than America—especially now, with its blood-thirsty Hollywood actor, Trump,” he wrote.
The commentator argued that the U.S. has repeatedly failed to address its own domestic crises while continuing to interfere in the internal affairs of other nations.
“With a series of terror attacks and daily killings of its citizens, America cannot even protect its own people but has the effrontery to feign concern for others,” he added.
“America Promotes Global Instability”
Shehu further accused the United States of fueling global instability, claiming that since 1945, America has been responsible for the deaths of millions of Christians through direct wars or proxy conflicts.
He argued that the U.S. exports a distorted version of democracy to Africa while pretending to promote human rights, yet continues to support monarchies in oil-rich regions because of economic interests tied to crude oil and arms sales.
According to Shehu, America also provides safe havens for stolen funds from developing nations, even as it blames them for underdevelopment and corruption.
“Trump’s Actions Could Trigger a Religious Crisis”
The activist warned that Trump’s purported defense of Christians could spark religious conflict in Nigeria.
“In the process of targeting so-called Islamic terrorists, American drones and warplanes will inevitably hit Islamic clerics, Muslim-dominated settlements, mosques, and madrasas,” he cautioned.
Shehu claimed that the U.S. aims to destabilize Nigeria, install puppet leaders, and exploit the country’s vast natural resources.
“America’s newfound ‘love for Christians’ is nothing but a strategy to create chaos in Nigeria, weaken it as a regional power, impose stooges, and extract its raw materials for selfish gain,” he stated.
“America Acts Like the Devil”
Shehu compared the United States’ behavior in Nigeria to its involvement in countries such as Guatemala, Nicaragua, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Somalia, Afghanistan, and Iran.
“When one recalls the destruction in these countries, it becomes clear that America behaves like the Devil Incarnate,” he wrote.
The commentator also shared an image of Donald Trump appearing in court, claiming he was being tried for inciting violence and undermining democracy in the U.S. He concluded his post with the phrase:
“The devil is a liar.”
