Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has voiced significant concerns regarding the absence of streetlights on the road leading to Jubilee House, describing it as a serious security threat. During a parliamentary session on March 14, 2025, Afenyo-Markin emphasized the urgency of addressing the issue, particularly given the location of the route in the heart of the capital.
He criticized the situation as unacceptable, particularly given its proximity to the seat of government. "Mr. Speaker, it is concerning for the security of the presidency that the entire route to the Office of the President is completely dark. This is right in the heart of the city, and it is worrying," he remarked.
Afenyo-Markin further urged the government to take immediate action, calling on the Minister for Greater Accra to appear before Parliament and outline measures being implemented to resolve the issue. "I request that the government business leader schedules a session for the Minister for Greater Accra to come and provide assurances to the House about the steps she is taking to address the lack of adequate lighting in this critical area," he added.
The Minority Leader stressed the importance of adequate street lighting throughout the city, particularly in areas surrounding government institutions.
