The Member of Parliament for Walewal, Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru, has raised concerns regarding what he deems as excessive spending under the administration of former President John Dramani Mahama. In particular, he has questioned the rationale behind the GH₵4.1 billion allocated for the Office of Government Machinery (OGM).
In a post on Facebook, Tiah pointed out that the government justifies the significant budget increase by claiming that OGM now includes both the National Security Ministry and the Ministry of Information. However, he noted that several agencies previously under OGM during President Akufo-Addo’s administration—such as the Zongo Development Fund, the Northern Development Authority, and the National Identification Authority—have been removed.
Despite the additional responsibilities, Tiah emphasized that the unexplained GH₵1.2 billion remains unaccounted for, even with the anticipated salary increases for personnel in the National Security and Information Ministries. He questioned the logic behind an approximately 200% increase in the OGM budget, asking, "How can you increase OGM by about 200% and still have the moral courage to mount a spirited defense?"
Tiah further argued that this budget increase contradicts the government’s claims of reducing staff numbers and cutting costs. He described the situation as “pure extravagance” and “unconscionable,” calling for accountability and reminding the public that Ghanaians deserve more prudent financial management. He concluded by stressing that the government’s actions should not go unchecked.
